Fat Larry’s Band was an American R&B/funk band from Philadelphia which found some commercial success in the mid to late 1970’s and 1980’s.
I discovered Fat Larry’s Band at my nieces first birthday party. Shoutout to Lilly Pitts and her parents Amy and Jarred. Great people.
The track specifically, that we played on repeat was Act Like You Know. Now, I am NOT a fan of the album cover, for the album Breakin’ Out, as seen above. But the music is so funky fresh you need to hear it for yourself. But the music held within is a treasure. Breakin’ Out, specifically Act Like You Know are a great time capsule to a funkier time. While there are band out there these days, the level of pure driven funk are present on this album and track.
Not much is known of Fat Larry’s Band after the 1986 release Nice, Fat Larry himself passed away in 1987, and the band disbanded. But the remaining members reunited in the 2019 and recoded their commercial hits, and tossed in some new material - not as good as the glory day music but still not half band. Check it out for yourself.
